Absinthe Sour Cocktail

Absinthe Sour

An excellent substitute for the whiskey sour, although, this Absinthe cocktail is not for everybody. However,  if you like the anise flavor of licorice, you’ll love this Absinthe Sour cocktail recipe.

This is how it came about. I was about to make whiskey sours for a pre-dinner cocktail when I realized there wasn’t enough whiskey to make two drinks. Insert sad face here, haha.

As luck would have it, a friend and coworker of mine, a French guy named Ruben, had given my Mom a bottle of Absinthe as a Christmas present. My Mom was of course terrified by the reputation absinthe had, so she never touched it. This led me to steal her Christmas present.

This is a terrible story of corruption brought on by Absinthe, I probably shouldn’t make it public, but too late. Absinthe for Christmas? Stealing liquor from my Mom? Terrible, just terrible.

So anyway, there’s the Absinthe, beckoning me to use it as a substitute for whiskey. Which I did, and my Absinthe Sour Cocktail is now one of my favorites. The spicy, warm, slightly bitter anise with the sour lemon and just enough sweetness makes this a great drink.

Next time you’re ordering a cocktail, try this. Just have the bartender substitute Absinthe for the whiskey in a whiskey sour and this is your new favorite drink.

Here’s my Absinthe Sour Cocktail Recipe, for two cocktails:
