Bourbon Honey Lemonade

Cool and refreshing, my Bourbon Honey Lemonade is what you need this evening. A summer porch sipper perfect for this August heatwave. Nothing like the sweetness of honey and the tart lemon to compliment the smoky ice-cold Bourbon. The only thing that Bourbon likes better than lemon and honey, is bitters. I add a splash of tonic water to the whiskey to add bubbles and to give a hint of bitter flavor to this refreshing Bourbon lemonade.

This Bourbon lemonade recipe is one of our favorite summer Bourbon cocktails!

Tonic Water in the Bourbon Honey Lemonade Gives it Bubbles!

I like to have a few bubbles in my Bourbon Honey Lemonade, and tonic water is the perfect addition. Why does tonic water go so well with Bourbon? Simple enough, it has a slightly bitter flavor.

Tonic water is not as concentrated as ‘bitters’ that are in many bourbon cocktails. However, it does have the same ability to highlight and enhance your favorite whiskey. At the same time bringing a nice refreshing fizz to this Bourbon Honey Lemonade that you want in a refreshing summery cocktail mixer without being sugary.

Bourbon and Honey

Bourbon and Honey are a great combination. I’m lucky to have a beekeeper on my street, so I know that some of that sweetness in this cocktail comes from the flowers in my own garden. When we drink this the honey bees always come to investigate. No sweetener is a better match with Bourbon than honey. Honey and whiskey was probably the first alcohol I ever had as a kid. A strong Hot Toddy was just the thing to knock out a cough and make a cold bearable. And I’m sure my parents were happy to have a little something to help knock me out for a while too! Haha.
