Campari Greyhound, The Salty Dog, and The Paloma Cocktails

Some of my all time favorite cocktail recipes, the Campari Greyhound, The Salty Dog, and The Paloma Cocktails. The Salty Dog cocktail is definately one of my favorite refreshing summertime cocktails, simple, no-nonsense, grapefruit juice and vodka with salt around the rim of the glass. Remove the salt from the rim of the glass, and you have the traditional Greyhound cocktail, both served on the rocks. The Paloma cocktail recipe is almost the exact same drink, The Paloma recipe simply substitutes Tequila for the Vodka, it’s originally made with grapefruit soda but I prefer using grapefruit juice and club soda. My Campari Greyhound cocktail recipe is slightly more involved (slightly) and as is the case with most of my drinks, slightly stronger (insert devil horn emoji here, haha).

Campari is an Italian liqueur with a spicy, bitter taste made with an infusion of various herbs and fruits. It is actually considered a type of bitters and has a very strong citrus flavor. It’s either grapefruit or orange peels as the main ingredient, but my palette isn’t sophisticated enough to pinpoint it. Aperol is an orange-flavored liqueur, I add a little of this just to calm the drink down slightly, although I like all Campari too, you should try it both ways and decide which one is better.

My Campari Greyhound cocktail recipe can be served on the rocks in a tumbler or in a Martini glass. On the rocks, I like to add a little grapefruit juice to the recipe, it’s a little more refreshing and adds a brightness to the flavor. Whereas the Greyhound Martini recipe is a little more concentrated and sophisticated.

The Traditional Greyhound Cocktail recipe and the Salty Dog Cocktail recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

PROCESS:

-In a Collins glass, combine all ingredients, stir, top off with ice

-For a Salty Dog, rim the edge of the glass

 

Campari Greyhound recipe (Martini Version)

INGREDIENTS:

PROCESS:

-Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice

-Shake 40-50 times, you’ll feel it when it’s cold enough

-Serve in a coupe or Martini glass

-Garnish with a lime round floating in the glass

Campari Greyhound Cocktail recipe (Rocks Version)

INGREDIENTS:

PROCESS: 

-In a Collins glass, combine all ingredients, stir, top off with ice

-For a Salty Dog, rim the edge of the glass

-Garnish with either a lime wedge, grapefruit wedge or a sprig of rosemary
