Charred Lemon Whiskey Sour

Charred Lemons add an incredible depth of flavor and character to this Whiskey Sour recipe, infusing a smoky, woody flavor, with a hint of floral and of course charred citrus. The classic Whiskey Sour is elevated to a more complex and interesting cocktail both visually and in its taste.

I grill a lot, so one of the first things I do once the coals are hot is throw a couple of lemons of the grill. A hot lemon releases more juice than I cold lemon, now I’ve not been able to find a good and reliable explanation for this. But an old kitchen hack is to microwave a lemon for 20 seconds in order to get the most juice out of it, and it works. So, if you have the grill fired up, might as well put them on the fire rather than microwave, the flavors better and more interesting anyway.

Here’s my Charred Lemon Whiskey Sour recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

-Place lemon slices and lemon halves on the grill, cut side down for 2-4 minutes, depending on how hot your grill is. You want them to blacken slightly.

-Squeeze half of a lemon into a cocktail shaker over ice with the whiskey and simple syrup

-Shake the cocktail 40-50 times until ice cold

-Serve on the rocks
