Easy Homemade Guacamole

An Easy Homemade Guacamole recipe…

My Homemade Guacamole recipe is the result of years of experimentation. Everybody has their own way of making guacamole and there are very strong opinions as to what ingredients go into an authentic guacamole recipe; lime juice or no lime juice, cumin or no cumin, etc., etc. And everybody seems to have an opinion as to the best way to keep Guacamole from turning brown, I’ll tell you what I do.

How to make Homemade Guacamole?

I start by combining all of the guacamole ingredients except the avocados, the salt, and lime juice to help draw out the moisture from the tomatoes and create a mixture similar to a vinaigrette. This can be made hours in advance of when you actually plan on serving the guacamole and is a great time saver for party planning. When it’s time to serve the Guacamole, simply add diced avocados and mix to combine, by mixing it fresh minutes before serving, you win the initial battle against the Guacamole turning brown.

How to store Guacamole so it doesn’t turn brown?

To prevent Guacamole from turning brown, I do one of two things. First I place my Homemade Guacamole recipe in a storage container and spread the surface flat with the back of a spoon. Then I either press plastic wrap directly against the surface to prevent air from getting to it. Or if you like tomato salsa, I spoon a layer of salsa over the top of the guacamole. The key is to prevent direct contact with the air and help prevent oxidation.

The ingredients in this guacamole recipe are very flexible. And I’m happy to say, healthy guacamole and ingredients can be added or subtracted based on your personal preferences. However, my recipe below is what I have found to be my ideal Homemade Guacamole recipe. Hopefully, you enjoy it as much as we do.

That’s awesome Anthony! I look forward to having big parties again someday and serving this homemade guacamole recipe! What’s great about this recipe is that it travels well too, put all the ingredients together except the avocados and you can have fresh guacamole as soon as you arrive at the party!
